Press Release to publicly launch Clean Marina Programme

Auckland Regional Council pleased with progress (October 2008)
Representatives from the Auckland Regional Council met with Brett Colby of the NZ Marina Operators Association and were pleased with the progress and standard of the NZ Clean Marina initiative. Brett has been working with the team at the Auckland Regional Council developing educational clean marina brochures.

NZMOA AGM updates members and reinforces need for Clean Marina programme (August 2008)
At the recent NZMOA AGM held in Tauranga members were updated and those that had previously signed the pledge were given copies of the Clean Marina Best Management Practices & Self Assessment guidebooks. Tony Arnold reported on recently receiving international recognition and award presented in Belgium from the International Marine Industries Association for the NZ Clean Marina programme.

Clean Marina brochure ready for summer launch
The NZ Marina Operators Association has produced the first in a series of informational brochures promoting the Clean Marina environmental initiatives which will be widely distributed to the boating fraternity through member marina customer service center’s, mailings and boatshows. Funding for this initiative has been sourced through the Auckland Regional Councils Coastal Enhancement Fund.
The Auckland Regional Council (ARC) each year allocates funding to coastal projects. The funding comes from Seabed and License fee revenue which the ARC collects from three marinas, Half Moon Bay Marina, Westpark Marina and the Bucklands Beach Yacht Club.

Belgium ICOMIA Conference acknowledges NZ Clean Marina Programme (May 2008)
The International Council of Marine Industry Associations has acknowledged and ratified the first global Clean Marina programmes.
The Clean Marina programme, developed jointly by ICOMIAs Marinas and Environment Committees, sets 12 criteria which such programmes must meet and seeks to set a baseline global standard.
The first awards in the programme were made at the opening of the ICOMIA Sixth International Marinas Conference held in Nieuwpoort, Belgium. The award to the Marina Industries Association of Australia was received by its President, Jeff DAlboa, and the award to the Marina Operators Association of New Zealand was received by board member, Tony Arnold.

Best Management Practices Guidebook updated
The NZMOA executive has undertaken a complete review of the Clean Marina Best Management Practices guidebook to incorporate current world’s best practice. The result of 12 months research the manual is intended as an educational resource and reference tool for the operators of marinas, slipways, boat clubs and boatyards. New Clean Marina logo launched
With the relaunch of the NZ Clean Marina programme a new fresh logo has been produced. The new logo incorporating a dolphin jumping out of a boats wake makes a clear statement of the intent of the programme. Everyone can identify with a dolphin and there requirements for a clean natural environment. We all need to think twice before we impact on there environment.

NZ Coastal Policy Statement due for review
The Department of Conservation is currently reviewing the New Zealand Coastal Policy Statement which is designed to promote the sustainable management of the natural and physical resources of the coastal environment, including land, foreshore, seabed and coastal waters from the high tide mark to the 12nm limit. Auckland Regional Council funding assistance approved (June 2008)
The NZ Marina Operators Association has been successful in securing funding of $11,660 from the Auckland Regional Councils Coastal Enhancement Fund (CEF) to produce a number of brochures promoting the objectives of the recently launched Clean Marina programme.

12 Marinas sign the pledge (August 2007)
Spokesman for the NZ Marina Operators Association Clean Marina programme, Brett Colby, had the opportunity to address the membership marina operators at the recent NZMOA AGM held at Opua in the Bay of Islands. “Everyone in the marine industry needs clean water and keeping it clean is just plain good business”. There was great interest in progressing the programme and 12 member marinas signed the pledge to become a certified clean marina, all agreed protecting water quality is up to each one of us. Sign the pledge here and become part of the solution not because you have too but because you care.

Picton & Waikawa Marinas first to be certified in New Zealand
The picturesque Marlborough Sounds now boasts the first two marinas in New Zealand to achieve the prestigious Clean Marina accreditation. The Clean Marina programme was developed by industry to recognize and promote excellence in sustainable environmental practices.
